This protest was inspired by disappointment in our elected representatives. They have failed to listen to Nebraskans, whether in town halls or in the voting booths. And our voices matter.
Nebraska is more than the way it is portrayed in national news. We are more than stereotypes and more than what our bored businessmen-turned-governors make us complicit in. We care about our neighbors, know our rights, and believe in a moral code.
The goal of this protest is to tell those elected representatives exactly what we think, but in a way that cannot be ignored. Emails can easily be filed or deleted. Voicemails go unheard. Tweets, who knows? Physical mail has to be sorted, delivered, and logged by the mail room. By people. Your envelope is a protest that takes up space the system. Imagine the chaos when these offices get 50-100% more mail in a week.
When you're plotting your perfect protest mail, consider some of these ideas:
Envelopes are more involved than postcards - they have to be opened;
They feel more serious;
They take more time and space;
They'll create more processing friction.
How do you feel about glitter? But not in an anthrax scare sort of way!
Use colorful envelopes;
Wax seals;
Stickers!
Extravagant handwriting - who says the art of penmanship is dead?
Add "DO NOT DISCARD" to the exterior.
